It’s funny, but my first decorating job is kind of turning into a reoccurring series around here. It comes at a good time as I haven’t really had time to do much with my own house now that photography season is full-swing and I’m back to being busier than busy!
I’ve created this inspiration board below as a road map of sorts for my friend. I wanted to create a visual representation of the direction I think we should go. I’m feeling some wood tones and neutrals for a very elegant yet rustic feel. To me it feels like a nod to Napa Valley style…what do you think? Am I over-thinking it? 🙂
Here is our basic game plan:
- Blue vases with twine: I’d like to use these on the bookshelves and perhaps on kitchen table. The best deal on these is to use a 40% off coupon and purchase from Hobby Lobby. They sell these in multiple sizes. You can also find them at Marshall’s/Home Goods pretty inexpensively. I love to stick eucalyptus leaves (from Hobbly Lobby) in these for a pop of green.
- New rug from Wayfair! Hooray! Great neutral rug, and I love this choice that she made! It is the Auvergne Dove Area Rug.
- Window Mirror: I’d like to bring in some character and use this Natural Sadie Arch Mirror from Kirklands on their mantel. It is a much larger piece than they currently have on their mantel, but I think it will match the scale of the large room with tall ceilings.
- Potted Olive Trees: I’d love to flank either side of the window mirror with some potted olive trees. Right now we’re checking Wayfair and Birch Lane for some good potted trees. They need to be tall to match the scale of the window mirror.
- Wood Sign from House of Belonging: I adore this Etsy shop and everything in it. I’d love to see something like this 36″ x 48″ Darling Aedriel Sign hanging above their couch. I’d love to hang larger-scale family pictures (maybe black and white images on canvases) on either side of it creating a gallery wall centered around this statement piece.
- Wood accent like like this lantern would be nice to create texture, warmth, and add contrast to the white shelves. We’re going keep our eyes peeled at Target, Wayfair, World Market or Home Goods.
- Wire baskets look amazing on open shelving. I would love to use at least three sporadically placed on the shelves. Might be something we can just grab at Target, World Market, or Home Goods.
- The side chair. The Kosas Home Debra Arm Chair on the inspiration board above from Wayfair is great, but we’re going to look into reupholstering their existing living room chair to look like this one.

So, what do you think? We’ve run into some roadblocks with things being temporarily out of stock, but we’re going to chug along!
Have a great day! 🙂
