This easy to make DIY holiday sign is perfect for Christmas.
It’s officially December now, and it feels like the holidays are coming at us in full force! We started my favorite holiday tradition, the Christmas Book Countdown last night! I was going to try and hold off on starting our Elf on a Shelf for at least another week, but Miss L came home from preschool yesterday insisting that “Buddy” should be back by now, because her preschool friends’ elves were making their return from the North Pole. She kind of pathetically walked around our house and called for him. So I guess Buddy better get back here quick. In other words, I guess I better get my rear-end down to the basement and figure out which Christmas box he’s in ASAP.

DIY Wooden Christmas Sign
Another holiday tradition, that I actually just realized is a tradition, is making a new rustic sign for the holidays. I found this old beat-up wooden board in our garage among my pile of scrap wood. I have no idea where it came from. It appears to have some sort of suspicious bite marks on it though. Not quite sure what to think about that…?
But anyway. I liked the size, and the bite marks just add that whimsical character, no?
I dry-brushed a few coats of white chalk paint on the old board. Then, I used my tried-and-true sign making technique of making a stencil using my Silhouette Cameo, and stenciling the wording on with some acrylic craft paint. Done and done! Easy peasy!
So, since the theme of his month’s Get Your DIY On is: “Holiday Knock-Off Projects,” I’ll explain the long story of how this is actually kind of a knock-off project.
So, I get these emails once a day from “Antique Farmhouse,” which is this great site that has all of this awesome vintage-looking decor. I actually kind of look forward to their emails and browsing through their curated collections…(no, this is not a sponsored post of any kind, I just am weird and look forward to some of my daily emails like that.)
Anyway.
One day, one of their photographs had this enormous farmhouse Christmas Trees sign, and I just loved it. They weren’t selling it, it just happened to be in the background of the photo. And I decided to make it myself.
And that’s it.
That’s the story.
