I’m giving Miss L complete credit for this month’s $30 Thursday Project.
{No, she didn’t paint, organize the jewelry, or make the cute garlands.}
Girl has gotten just tall enough to get into drawers.
(Can you see my frazzled expression and hear my exasperated sigh?)

She’s especially interested in the drawer that contains all of my jewelry….
She pulls out earrings, necklaces, and bracelets and goes, “oooooooh!” and “preeeeeey”, then proceeds to screech until I put it on her…She loves to accessorize, what can I say?!
I knew I needed to get (at least some of) my jewelry out of the drawer and out of reach. So I decided to use this old screen (that I nabbed out of the attic of our old house before we moved) for a jewelry organizer!

1. Like I said, this old screened window came from the attic of our old house in Indy. The house was built in 1921, and I’m fairly certain this screen was original to the house…cool!
2. I didn’t mind the black color of the frame, but I really wanted to give it a pop of color, so I taped off the screen to prep it for paint!
3. Using a “dry brush” technique, I painted the frame. Dry brushing basically means that you barely dab your brush’s bristles into the paint, dab or wipe off the excess paint, then quickly brush the paint onto the frame. I used this technique because I wanted some of the original black paint to show through the blue paint. I wanted my finished product to look a little rough and worn.
4. You can see I was using newspaper to dab off excess paint before I brushed paint onto the frame.
5. I continued to dry brush until I achieved the look I was going for.
6. When the paint was dry, I used “picture penders” (I totally had to google it to find out what those are called) to hang my necklaces to the screen. I got the picture penders out of a picture hanging kit I had.
7. The earring were so easy to hang, I just looped them into the screen’s holes.
8. I used my Silhouette to make these cuuuuute garlands! (This may be my favorite part of the project!)
9. The finished product is hanging on my guest bedroom wall!

I used this amazing gold scrapbook paper (from JoAnn), and some left over papers from other projects to create these gorgeous garlands! 🙂 I love how they look with my jewelry!
Let’s see what Shayna cranked out this month!

LOVE this Chicken Wire Basket by Shayna…What don’t I love that she does?! 🙂

This turned out so amazing! I’m not a huge jewelry person, but this makes me want to be! 🙂
Great job, friend!
Ha! I have a bunch of jewelry, but then hardly ever wear it. It seems like I wear the exact same pair of earrings every single day…. 🙂
So cute! Coming here from Roadkill Rescue. Love new ideas for all my old frames.
