Decorating made easy with black and white decor pieces in a neutral summer home.
Hi, there! It’s so summer around here, it’s not even funny. Not funny at all. The humidity has been at like 100%, and I’m sweating in places I forgot existed. But I digress…I’m excited to share some of the changes I’ve made around the house since last we toured. I’ve been adding a lot of black and white pieces. Black and white never goes out of style, but it’s definitely having a moment in art, decor, and interior design!
Today the gang and I are sharing our summer home tours, and I’d like to give special thanks so much to my friend, Krista, for hosting another Summer Simplicity Home Tour! The entire lineup can be found at the bottom of this post.

We’ll begin in the tiny little foyer. When you walk through our front door, this is the first spot you see. The oval wood mirror makes a pretty companion to our entryway bench and pretty black and white lumbar pillow.
From the entryway you head right into the living room. The living room itself has not changed too much.
While the living room basically looks the same, the fun artwork on the mantel is new.
I love the pairing of the two pieces with my own photography from Italy. The two faux potted rosemary topiaries are the icing on the mantel cake. 😉
I used to switch out my throw pillows for every season, but I find that I’m mellowing out a bit in that regard. Or maybe I’m just getting lazy. Undecided. I just go for really neutral throw pillows that don’t need to be changed all the time.
My rug does the job of bringing in some color. I love how she looks good with any decor I switch out or bring in.
Coffee table books and a little black jack finish off the coffee table nicely.
It wouldn’t be a proper summer home tour without a shot of my peonies, right? We planted the peony bush a few years ago, and I just love snipping them off and bringing them in while they last.
The open shelves feature more black white, gold, and natural pieces. The big lanterns on top are my favorite! I keep some battery operated pillars in there all year. I flip them on even in the summer. Candles set such a nice ambiance no matter the season.
Ohhhh, heyyyy new dining room table! I was so ready to update our dining area with more modern and simple dining room table. I’m really loving the clean modern lines of this beauty! I am using the chairs and bench from our last dining table, but I have some from Pottery Barn I’m eye-balling….why do I torture myself with expensive things?! Rough life.
I have a simple black bowl of (fake) succulents for a summer centerpiece.
I even bought a black and white dog to match the decor. Kidding. She’s been here for quite some time. 😉
Simple, black and white, and clean. That suits me just fine these days.
Thank you so much for stopping by! I’m always so happy you did! 😉

Gorgeous, April! So light, bright, and airy! I love your new dining table. I was wondering where the etagere bookcase went when I first saw the picture, but I’m glad to see you still have it in the living room – that etagere is so pretty and you’re the master at styling it!
