Making this DIY towel rack from pallet wood was super easy and looks amazing in our bathroom!
I’m so happy!
We recently finished our guest bathroom makeover! I don’t have all the pictures completely ready yet, but I wanted to share a super-easy DIY towel rack project with you!
Have you ever wondered how to make a towel rack out of an old piece of pallet wood? No? Well, this is awkward then….
This was such a simple project that has made a big impact in this room…and it all started with an old piece of pallet wood…
1. I had been saving this piece of pallet wood for the perfect project!
2. This particular piece of pallet wood was rather beat-up, and I wanted to even out the color. So I stained the whole thing with Minwax’s Wood Finish in “Driftwood”.
3. Here is just a quick shot of the two vital finishes to achieve the weathered look I was going for.
4. After the stain dried, I used a dry-brush technique with American Accent’s “Heirloom White” paint. {Dry brush technique is basically just dipping the end of your bristles into the paint, dabbing off the excess, then “dry brushing” you piece.} It’s a great technique to use when you want a weathered finish!
5. Next, we drilled a “pilot holes” {that’s what Mr. Hoff called them} where we wanted the hooks to go. Mr. Hoff says that you have to drill pilot holes so that your screws don’t split the wood when you screw in your screws…or something like that.
6. We aligned the holes in the hooks with our pilot holes, then drilled the screws that attach the hooks to the wood into place.
Tada! Love my new DIY towel rack!
I LOVE my new “Beach Sign” too! If you follow me on Instagram, then you may remember when I found this at an antique store this summer! I snatched it up, and hung it up in the new bathroom!
Plus I also made a pallet wood arrow that you can look at here! Pallet Wood Arrow
I can’t wait to share more pictures of the finished guest bathroom with you!
Have a great day!

I love your hooks! Also the Beach sign, where is that from?
April Hoff says
Thanks, Beth! The beach sign is a true antique found at a local antique store. I’m not sure where else you could find one like it! 😉

I adore this! I have some old fence wood that’s been sitting in a pile outside so it’s all nice and weathered now and I think I just might have to make this for our entry way to hang all the kid’s backpacks on. Pinned to share. 🙂 Have a great day! -Dawn

Thanks, Dawn! So glad you’ll be able to use up some of your wood stash! 😉
Lisa @ Fern Creek Cottage says
I love it! It looks great! I am wondering what you used to hang it on the wall?
April Hoff says
You know what? I just picked out some random stuff out of a picture-hanging kit to hang it…I’m not even sure what the hardware was called. If you have a picture-hanging kit, you should have plenty of options though! Sorry I’m not more helpful on that one!

What an inspiring idea! Mr. Hoff sounds very smart too! Like Dawn, I have tons of pallets in my storage/studio that I have been saving for projects, so this will be a DIY project for my 15 year old daughter to tackle, since were are in the midst of reinventing her room.
Thanks,
You rock!

My neighbor is dismantling his old barn so he gave me some coveted barn wood. I cut at piece 22″ long to fit our entry way wall and did 3 hooks like yours with the glass balls. The wood has so much history and patina. No wonder it’s hard to come by (for free).
April Hoff says
That’s so exciting! I’m so glad you found a fun way to use the wood, and a piece with that much history makes it even that much better! 😉

Where did you get those fabulous hooks? I’m trying to find an affordable place for hooks.
April Hoff says
Thanks, Kristin! They are from Hobby Lobby! 😉
