Here I a sharing with you my winter decor, that will give you lots of decorating inspiration!
If I had any doubt that winter was here, then last week’s chilly sub-zero temps, high-winds, and snow knocked me clearly into reality.
Since I’ve been forced to spend A LOT of time indoors lately, my attention has really been focused on winter decorating and switching things up around our house.
I’m excited to be serving up some of my winter decorating inspiration today by participating in “Warming Up For Winter” with two of my favorite bloggers. We know that winter decorating can be especially challenging, and we want to offer up some diverse ideas and show you what we’re doing to decorate this winter.
My foyer recently received a little attention. I switched out the bench and pillows that are normally under the mirror for a newly refinished table and fun accessories.
I love this cute little snowy owl throw pillow peeking out from under the table!
I’ve been happily using snippings from our pine trees to add a little fresh winter greenery to my vignettes.
Moving into the living room…I kept my deer head from my Christmas mantel on the chalkboard for winter. I love the character that he adds to the living room He makes quite the statement, no? {I just decided while typing that sentence that he was a he…now I must think of a name.}
Right before Christmas, when West Elm had their rug sale, I splurged on a new herringbone jute/chenille rug for our living room. I’m SO glad I did. I love the rich texture that it adds to our large living room. It makes it feel far more cozy and complete than it did before.
Cozy pillows and throws…a must for winter, right?
As you can see, I’m keeping my decor very neutral right now. I really wanted something that can carry me easily into spring/summer.
The joy banner from Christmas also got to stay…some decor just transitions nicely, doesn’t it? I like the bit of detail that it adds to the mirror, this vignette might look too sparse without it, don’t you think?
I LOVE my new bird cage. Actually I was shopping for Miss L’s room, and I brought home like 5 bird cages to try. This one didn’t make the cut for her room, but when I stuck it on my console table, I knew the birdcage to stay here! I stuck some vintage books and more greenery in it, and I’m quite pleased with how it looks!
The neutral decor continues on into the eating area…
The floor plan is all open in my house. All of my decor really has to go together, because you can see it all at the same time. This can be very challenging at times!
See my tutorial for the DIY Pallet Wood Box here.
I really love the way my industrial chairs look with the rustic burlap runner and jute rug. The mix of industrial and rustic is a combination that I think really defines my style. 😉
I hope you found some inspiration today! Stay warm and enjoy the indoors!
Here are some of my winter decor ideas from last year:
As I mentioned above, I’m not the only one serving up some winter decor inspiration today! Be sure to check out Rachel’s , from Maison de Pax, and Krista’s, from The Happy Housie, winter tours! These two never disappoint! 😉
Have a great day! 😉
I love all your winter decor. I too decorated for ‘winter’ this year, which is a first for me..but thought why not after Christmas. I can’t wait for Spring though!!! Thanks for sharing!
Paige.Rose
No problem, Paige! I love decorating for spring too…can’t wait for warmer weather! 😉
So cozy. The dining room is my favorite!
Thanks Alison! I have to say that it is the winner of “most evolved space” in my house from last year to this year! 😉
Just absolutely stunning. Love it all!!!!
Thank you so much, Deborah! 😉
Beautiful, April! I’m loving that birdcage, especially. You know me and books – it makes the perfect vignette. 🙂
Thanks, Rachel! Every vignette looks better with some old books, right?! 😉
Winter decorating may be a bit challenging, but you’ve made it look easy!! You have done an amazing job. I love how you have kept some bits up from Christmas and incorporated them. 🙂
Thanks, Nadine! I must have made it look easier than it really is, because I really do think it’s hard! 😉 xo
Your home is beautiful! I love your fireplace decor and I love the bird cage too with vintage books in it!
It looks beautiful April- I love how you seamlessly transitioned from Christmas into a calm and cozy winter look! Your deer chalkboard suits winter perfectly. I know I kept out a lot of our ‘woodland’ accents from Christmas as well – I love how they transition into winter. The new rug is amazing!
I really like your winter décor ideas. Some fresh and crisp colors that match the winter weather.
Your house is beautiful! Where are the patterned throw pillows from? They are just the right combo to go from winter to spring!
Thank you, Jenni! They are from Target!
April! Gorgeous! I was going to tell you what part I liked best, but I love it all!
Katie @ Fun Home Things
Awww, thanks, Katie! You’re so sweet!
Where did you get the blue and colored throw pillows?
The multi-colored throw pillows are from Target, and the blue throw pillows are from Meijer (both this season)! 😉
I like your deer head. We have one. He stays up all year. We lovingly can him John. As in Deer John or John Deer.
Hi April, I came by way of TDC and I think your house is very pretty and calming/soothing. Can I ask where you got your jute rug in the dining area? Is it all jute? Is it soft? I have a jute rug that sheds debris constantly and I didn’t know they did that. The jute/chenille rug you have in the living room looks very soft and I bet it doesn’t shed. Is there a big difference between the two rugs? Thanks for your advice.
Hi Karen! I’m so glad you found me! The rug in the dining area is 100% jute. It is from Wayfair.com (I can’t remember exactly which one it is). It is not soft, and I would not recommend it in a living room or high-traffic area. It doesn’t shed though… The jute/chenille rug in the living room is very soft, feels great under bare feet, and is perfect for a living room. It also does not shed. I LOVE the jute/chenille rug! I love the looks of the jute rug, but, again, wouldn’t use it in a living room. Hope this helps!
Hi April! I LOVE your home, I’m getting so inspired looking through your posts 🙂 I have a question since you’ve now had your herringbone rug for a couple of months… do you notice that it is hard to keep clean?? I have the same rug and I bought it last August, but I feel like mine already looks terrible! I was just curious if you have any thoughts on it thus far, or if it’s working out really well for you. Thanks!!
Thank you, Amanda! The rug is very low-maintenance for me. I do not notice that it is hard to keep clean. 😉
I have a question about your rug in the living room. I cannot tell by the pictures, but is it on top of wall to wall carpeting? I have always wanted to do that, but not sure how it would look. Thanks
It sure is, Cheri! I have two rugs on top of my carpeting (one in the living room and one in the eating area), and I love them!
