…There is a funny story to this lamp, actually.
It begins with my ears perking up when the principal at my school asked me if I wanted an owl lamp that she received years ago as a gag gift. She thought I might be able to do something cute with it.
I, of course, happily agreed to take it off her hands. π
I had a”bright idea” [see what I did there?] about what I might do with the owl lamp…
I really regret getting rid of the original shade before I snapped a “before” picture, but you definitely get the gist. I can envision this beauty being right at home in a house with green shag carpet and dark wood paneling on the wall. π
You know, there’s not much that a can of spray paint (Rust-Oleum’s Dover White) and little burlap can’t fix! The lampshade was one I had saved from an old lamp that broke. I knew I’d find the perfect match for it some day! So glad I kept it!
…and that, my friends, is the story of how the owl lamp got her dignity back. Check out this owl lamp that inspired this makeover over at Chaotically Creative!
P.S. The owl lamp now sits in my classroom, where my students get a big kick out of the fact that I gave the principal’s lamp a makeover. (Some of them are insistent that it was better before….goobers.)

I love this!! What a funky little piece it turned out to be. I would have grabbed that in a second if I saw it at a garage sale- what a great principal to think of you:) I love how ugly 70s lamps make themselves over so beautifully with just a little spray paint. And the shade looks amazing with it.
