I’m back today for a quick update on our guest bathroom makeover! If you’ve been following along, then you know that I’m participating in the New Year New Room Challenge, and we’re tackling our very outdated guest bathroom. The idea is to completely refresh one space in your house in a month, and we’ve got so much to do in just one week!!!
Although we still have a lot to do, we’ve gotten a lot done! We’ve basically finished installing our beautiful basalt herringbone tile. I say “basically” because I still have a little clean up left to do!
We measured, cut, and laid our mosaic floor tiles first before using a Versabond Thin-Set Mortar to adhere them into place. I sealed the tiles with a 511 Impregnator Sealer before grouting because the nice flooring lady at Home Depot told me that the basalt stone I’m using is very porous, and that I should seal it before grouthing. Next, we used Fustion Pro Grout in “Oyster Gray” to grout our tiles.
After the tiles were grouted, they had quite a bit of “grout haze” left. I used Aqua Mix’s Non-Cement Grout Haze Remover to remove a lot of the excess grout, and I still need to another round to get the really hazy spots cleaned.
You can see that the tiles really came clean with the grout haze remover:
That’s where I’m leaving off for today! In just one week I’ll be posting the finished bathroom project! Wish me A LOT OF LUCK!!!! 😉

Wow, freaking, wow. That tile is gorgeous! And it’s amazing you’ve done all that yourself. So impressive!
Thank you SO much, Corinna! It’s been a huge learning experience, but I have to admit: I’m really proud of us! Ha! xo
