Time is flying, and the New Year New Room Refresh has us scrambling to overhaul our guest bathroom in just a few weeks! So far, I’ve shared our plans for the guest bathroom, and the before shots, and this week I have some ACTUAL PROGRESS to share!
This week, all of the supplies are arriving in the mail, and we made a lengthy trip to Home Depot to buy the rest of what we’ll need.
We began demo in the bathroom. We took everything out except the bathtub and surround, which will stay. Everything else got ripped out!

One of the things I’m most excited about is our new herringbone flooring! This is our first time ever tiling anything, and we’re definitely challenging ourselves by starting with a mosaic herringbone stone with tiny tiles!
After removing our vinyl flooring and cleaning off the plywood subfloor, Jared mixed up some VersaBond Thinset Mortar before laying the cement backer board.
Our little helper is always wanting to give her full support…ha! She always wants to know exactly what we’re doing. 😉
We used a 1/4″ backer board with a grid and screw holes already marked. It was very helpful to have the visual of the grid and not have to second guess where to screw into the backer board.
After he laid the backer board, he taped up and mortared the seams.
There! Done! Nothing to it! (Yeah, right!!!)
A few weeks ago, I shared my original plan for our guest bathroom makeover, but I have tweaked and changed a few things since then. Here is the most current plan:

Wow that’s awesome y’all are going for it with the tiled floors. I once tried tiling, as a first timer, with mosaic tile and it was a disaster. You’re already off to a better start than we were.
Oh my goodness, girl…We’re doing the best we can over here! It isn’t perfect, but I’m thinking we’re going to pull it off! Ha! xo
Tiling is something I want to try my hand at. Looks like you are doing a great job!!
April I’m in awe that you’re taking on tiling! I want to try to do that this year as well. Thanks for showing the need for the cement backing, because I totally didn’t know that. 🙂
