I think my daughter may have inherited my decorating gene…
It’s just too bad that our ” decorating ideas” don’t always “work well” together….you know what I’m sayin’?
You see, Miss L. received a dollhouse for Christmas. (Dollhouse from PB Kids.) I ordered some super-cute furniture to go in the dollhouse, and I figured she could “decorate” all she wanted in her dollhouse. Instead she just took all of the furniture out of the dollhouse and put it, well, EVERYWHERE.
That drove me nuts.
So, I realized that dollhouses are kind of hard to play with on the floor.
I thought it might be nice to have it up on a little table, so it was more at eye-level/playing level for Miss L….surely then she would actually play with the dolls and the dollhouse furniture in the dollhouse, right?!
When I salvaged this piece from Grandma’s basement, it looked like this:
I threw a tarp down on our living room floor one afternoon and painted the table pink. The pink color is “Innocence” by Americana Decor’s Chalk Paint. I didn’t sand or prime my table, just wiped it down with a dust rag and painted it with two coats of pink! So easy.
I wanted the top of the table to look kind of like a yard for the dollhouse. To get the look of a green yard, I used a round sponge brush and layered green circles. I started with the bottom layer of dark green circles, which is called “New Life”. For the next layer, I mixed “New Life” with “Whisper” to achieve a lighter green. I repeated the process one more time for the last layer of circles So there are three layers of green circles, each layer getting a little lighter than the last…make sense?
So…does it look like a yard? Eh, close enough. 😉
So…did it work? Does she actually play with the dollhouse stuff in the dollhouse?!
Nope. No she does not. And if I even touch any of that stuff or try to arrange it in the dollhouse, she tells me, “That’s my decorating. Don’t move it!”
See? I told you our “decorating ideas” don’t “work well” together. 😉

That is so funny! She seems like such a little grown woman lol. The table turned out really sweet though and the green circles kind of do look like grass…from a distance, through a blurry lens, with one eye open. 😉

Well, Mom….hang in there. Things will get more interesting as the years go on. My Dad use to say that I will pay for my raising when my children were growing up. Oh, Daddy, how right you was!
