I finally finished a modern farmhouse playroom makeover and I am sharing the look for you here!
I was going to start this post with a joke about having you over for a play date today, but then it got all weird when I started thinking about adult play dates and toys…there were just too many ways that my innocent joke was going all sorts of wrong.

So, instead of inviting you over to play, how about I invite you over to check out the farmhouse inspired finished playroom makeover?!
We started this makeover at the very beginning of January with the installation of this fabulous wallpaper that looks like shiplap! I honestly wasn’t really planning on doing a playroom makeover, but as soon as the wallpaper was up it looked so farm-housey and cute in here. I wanted to keep the momentum going and give Miss L. a sweet space to play.
We used to have a bulky storage piece that housed all of our craft supplies in this corner. I moved it out and put Miss L’s chalkboard table and turquoise chairs here instead. We used to have this small table and chair set in the living room, but moving it here made so much more sense. She uses it more now too, which makes me happy to see!
I moved my favorite triangle art (from Hobby Lobby two years ago)ย to this corner, which was also just a fun way to use a favorite piece in a new spot. I get tons of questions about this triangle art, and while I can’t source the original, Iย found a few similar art pieces here and here.
I think it’s important for play spaces to be aesthetically pleasing. Don’t you think our little people need pretty places to play be creative? Yes ma’am, they do.
{Don’t worry, I won’t make a habit of answering my own rhetorical questions…}
So that’s why I added a pretty potted olive tree (from Steinmart), woven place mat, and other pretty accessories to her table.
{No, she doesn’t knock this stuff over or destroy it. That’s the beauty of a five-year old girl…for the most part, she understands that some things are just there to be pretty.}
…and in the opposite corner, we have her reading nook!
I. love. this. corner, I love it, love it, love it, love it!!!!
I transformed these sweet wall-mounted book racks from my elderly neighbor’s basement by just adding some paint. Read more about it here.
I get a lot of questions about the black and white camera artwork too. Again, it was a Hobby Lobby find a few years ago. I have not been able to find it or anything similar…boo!
Remember the DIY piping table we made a few years ago? It’s still in here! I foolishly thought I’d use this as a work space but quickly realized that a child’s play space, and an adult’s work space are two things that just don’t mix. (The wall behind this table is a chalkboard wall...just in case you were wondering!)
This table has been taken over by my sweet girl. It’s normally covered with crayons, scissors, stickers, glue and paper, which suits me just fine. (Note the crayon marks on the butcher block top…oh well!)
I topped the table with several aesthetically pleasing pieces that can display her stories and artwork. She likes hanging her finished work on this magnetic board, or clipping it onto the chicken-wire window.
This little story she wrote might be my favorite thing ever. ๐ ย She loves to write, and it isn’t unusual for her to dictate a sentence to us for help with spelling. This is one my mom helped her write one day while I was at work. When I got home, she proudly presented it to me. I love that it’s written exactly how she would say it. I can just hear her little voice when I read it. Adorable!
Moving along, we have her little Pottery Barn Kids kitchen. A few years ago we splurged a little and got a nice-looking play kitchen. I do not regret spending a little extra to get a play kitchen that is not obnoxious to look at. I know I might be a bit more picky than most, but they are such big toys that you have to look at for many years. To me it’s been worth it! ๐
It’s so funny how a few simple changes can turn a room that I really didn’t think that much about into my favorite room in the house. I love sitting in here with her while she plays. This space also doubles as my photography studio when I am asked to do indoor photos. I used to get super-stressed when I took on indoor jobs, now I can’t wait to use it!
I’ve sourced many of the items we’ve used in this room, some look-alikes, and some fun extras to get you started in creating a beautiful play space!

Love the rocking chair, where is it from? So pretty! Also, the camera art?
The camera print is from Hobby Lobby a few years ago, and the rocking chair is a painted garage sale find. ๐
Such a beautiful, creative space for your little gal! So inspiring! Thanks for giving us the tour. Wondering where the sweet blonde dolly came from in the last picture (near the PBK kitchen set)? So darling!!
